Call for Applications into PhD And MSc Programmes 2021/2022 Academic year

Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) is seeking applications from national and international applicants into PhD and MSc programmes for the 2021/2022 academic year.  Exceptional applicants who present innovative research proposals at selection interview will be offered limited scholarship from the World Bank Africa Centres of Excellence Project (ACE Impact).

Qualified applicants who do not get TRECK funding can opt for FEE-PAYING option. TRECK scholarship package covers tuition fees and Research grant. Females are encouraged to apply for the funding opportunities available.

Deadline for Admissions application is on 3rd December, 2021.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have Bachelor’s degree (minimum of Second Class (Upper Division)) or its equivalent in a relevant Engineering, Management, or Planning discipline, or a recognised equivalent qualification from a reputable University with good mathematical skills, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Geography, Planning, Architecture, Building Technology and Construction Management, Development Studies and any field of specialization relevant to the programme from a recognized University.

Candidates whose qualification may not align the above directly will have their transcripts assessed by the selection committee and if found to be acceptable invited to attend a selection interview. Candidates with BTech with at least a two-2 year works’ experience in the relevant disciplines may be admitted after passing a selection interview; Relevant field experience will be an advantage.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have a good Master’s degree in Transport engineering, Transport systems, Highway engineering, Road and Transport engineering, Applied mathematics with transport or operations research specialisation, transport economics, or any other relevant discipline from a recognised institution, with a cumulative weighted average of at least 60.

Application supporting documents

MSc and PhD applicants must submit detailed CV and two letters of reference (one from your supervisor at the Masters), Official transcripts and certificates for BSc and MSc degrees, and Proof of ability to communicate in English for applicants from non-Anglophone countries.

MSc and PhD applicants must submit soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. two pages) outlining why you want to study, what makes you well-suited to study in your chosen specialisation, current occupation, how the programme will fit into your professional vision, how your home country stands to benefit after your training.

PhD applicants are to submit both soft and hard copies of a short research proposal above (max. 6 pages) outlining the justification, objectives, methodology and expected outcomes of a research idea. Applicants are expected to make oral presentation of the proposed research and their capacity to undertake the research at selection interview.  

Mode of application

Candidates may apply directly to the KNUST Graduate School and send soft copies to TRECK.

Ghanaian Students

  • Purchase an e-Voucher containing Login ID/Serial Number and PIN for GHȼ250.00 at the following banks: GCB Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) or Ecobank or dial *447*160# on any network and follow the prompts.
  • Proceed to https://apps.knust.edu.gh/admissions/ and complete the relevant application documents,
  • Hard copies of application form should be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies, KNUST by 3rd December, 2021.

International Students 

  • Access the KNUST application form via https://apps.knust.edu.gh/admissions/apply/Account/Register
  • Register with your email and check your email inbox for password to login.
  • Login and complete application form and upload scanned recent passport-size picture
  • Soft copies of the signed application form and other relevant documents should be sent by email to treck@knust.edu.gh by 3rd December, 2021.
