Call for Applications for the Recruitment of a Research Assistant at TRECK

Preamble

The Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK), a World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence is looking for motivated individuals to employ as Research Assistants.

Number of positions: 2

Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible to the Centre Director. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  1. Assisting in the development of funding proposals
  2. Support the development of the consultancy unit and incubation unit within the Centre to facilitate student career development objectives of the project.
  3. Providing support to professors in the supervision of postgraduate research students’ training.
  4. Planning and organizing short courses
  5. Liaising with the Industrial Liaison Officer to establish a mentorship and career development program for students linking industry and the Centre through special seminars and other creative initiatives.
  6. Assisting with and coordinating the research activities of the various thematic groups of the Centre.
  7. Preparing articles, reports, and presentations.
  8. Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
  9. Performing any other related role that may be assigned by the Centre Director
  10. Assisting in the teaching of software to students and coaching

 

Job Qualifications

TRECK is looking for results-oriented, self-directed and a team player with good communications skills. He should be an honest and respectful person. In addition, successful candidates should possess the following:

  • MSc degree in Road and Transport Engineering and a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience
  • Good research and publication skills, with evidence of at least three (2) publications in high impact journals. Presentations of conference papers may be additional advantage
  • Candidates must be proficient in using the following computer software (word, excel, PTV VISSIM, VISUM, HDM-4, Autodesk Civil 3D)
  • The successful candidate may wish to enroll on the Doctoral program after one year of successful service.

 

Other Required Skills:

  1. Outstanding in writing, analytical, communication skills and willingness to bring ideas to the table.
  2. Able to work in a challenging environment.
  3. A team player, self-motivated, problem-solver and should demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities; and
  4. Must be innovative and have a passion for excellence.

 

Remuneration

An attractive remuneration will be paid to the successful applicant.
