PhD Highway and Transportation Engineering (Doctorate)

Duration of the programme is thirty six months (36 months). PhD participants will undertake six months (6 months) taught courses and thirty months (30 months) research leading to PhD thesis. The method of teaching and transfer of information to students will be in the form of lectures, workshop, design exercises, field work and tutorials.

In conformity with the entry requirement of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the applicant should have;

  • First or Second Class in their first degree in Civil or Geomatic engineering, Materials science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer  Engineering (intelligent systems, artificial intelligence option), Urban planning (transport option), Economics, Geography and regional planning (Transport option) with very good mathematical and spatial analysis background, applied Mathematics and statistics, or any other relevant discipline or its equivalent.
  • Good Master’s degree in Transport Engineering, Transport systems, Highway Engineering, Road and Transport engineering, Applied Mathematics with transport or operations research specialisation, transport Economics, or any other relevant discipline from a recognised institution, with an average of at least 60%.
  • Students are to pass a selection interview
  • Proficiency in English:
    • Must have first or second degree with English language as the medium of instruction, OR 
    • Must have an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in English Language (TOEFL or IELTS) with above average score.
    • Otherwise they will undertake a three-month intensive English course at KNUST.
