A 3 - days professional short term course (STC) to enhance the knowledge and skills of postgraduate transport students of the Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) – Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) has closed in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
The course which took place from February 8th to 10th, 2022 was administered by a team of researchers and academics from the KNUST-Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (KNUST-LISA), Ghana lead by Prof. Atinuke Adebanji, the Centre Coordinator, who is also a Fellow of TRECK. Altogether, nine (9) female and Twenty-six (26) male participants attended the course.
The course covered Probability distribution for transport data, parametric and nonparametric tests, Time series data analysis, regression analysis and choice models. Instructions was in R and stata software.
In his remarks to close the course Prof. Yaw Adubofour underscored the need for statistical knowledge and skills and the application of statistical software and modelling tools for transport practice. He further indicated that TRECK is using this as a pilot to prepare a STC on Traffic and Transport data collection, analysis and modelling in partnership with LISA. The project received a grant financing from USAID.
