The Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) had the privilege of participating in the inaugural National Tertiary Education Conference (NTEC), organized by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) in partnership with the African Centres of Excellence (ACE) Project. The event, held from November 5-7, 2024, at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, focused on the theme “Transforming Tertiary Education in Ghana: Dialogue, Policy, and Practice.”
This three-day conference brought together prominent stakeholders from regulatory bodies, heads and representatives of tertiary institutions, policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss crucial issues in tertiary education, with a special emphasis on curriculum development, pedagogy, quality assurance, internationalization, and research development.
The conference also marked the 10th anniversary of the ACE Project, where leaders from various ACE Centres, including TRECK, highlighted their significant achievements and contributions to enhancing tertiary education across Africa.
TRECK actively participated in the conference, showcasing its successes and initiatives in the transport and logistics sectors. Through our exhibition booth, we presented the Centre's key achievements, particularly our work in capacity-building, industry collaboration, and student training. The event provided an invaluable opportunity for TRECK to network with other Centres of Excellence, policy makers, and thought leaders, reinforcing existing collaborations and exploring new opportunities for partnership and growth.
In his welcome address, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, Director-General of GTEC, emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration in shaping the future of tertiary education. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Honorable Minister for Education, highlighted the importance of integrating innovations from the pre-tertiary education sector into the curricula of tertiary institutions, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an evolving professional world.
The NTEC 2024 provided a platform for TRECK to share its contributions to the education sector and engage in meaningful discussions on the future of tertiary education in Ghana. As the Centre continues to strive for excellence in transport education, research, and development, we remain committed to advancing sustainable mobility solutions and fostering educational practices that benefit students and communities across the region.
TRECK’s participation in this conference reaffirmed our dedication to contributing to the transformation of tertiary education in Ghana and Africa at large.
We look forward to further collaborations and opportunities to expand our impact in the years to come.
